Since the beginning of computing, the end of developers has been announced. Dan Bricklin thought in 1977 that he would no longer work as a programmer; he created VisiCalc in 1979, one of the first spreadsheets, which can be described as Low-code since there is no need to develop (or very little) to create an application.

Low-code tools have inherited from the first spreadsheets the meta-models and their models, allowing a person without development knowledge to produce an application.

The idea of developing applications themselves is tempting for business units, especially when we know that few IT projects are delivered on time and in compliance with specifications, but would this herald the end of developers?

The reality is that Low-code tools, which promised business units to do without IT skills, have actually strengthened the links between IT Departments and business units. Indeed, Low-code tools, available to business units, allow them to express their needs much more easily and in detail, which enables IT Departments to be much closer to delivering what has been requested. The generalization of modeling tools based on standardized notations such as BPMN or OSSAD is proof of this. This allows Business Units and IT Departments to share a common vocabulary.

Digitalization and the era we live in today are driving No-code tools forward since it pushes for dematerialization of internal and external processes, with the advent of the cloud. 11% of enterprise applications use Low-code, which should rapidly reach 30%.
